Research & Problem Identification
Trade Lock began as an investigation into the growing issue of tool theft within the construction industry. Through primary and secondary research, including site visits, user interviews and industry analysis, I explored the financial and operational impact of stolen equipment on tradespeople and businesses. The findings highlighted a clear need for a secure, practical and user-friendly solution capable of protecting high-value power tools both on-site and in transit.









Design Development & Iteration
Using insights gathered during the research phase, I developed and evaluated a range of concepts aimed at improving tool security without compromising usability. The project progressed through sketch development, CAD modelling, prototyping and design refinement, with each stage helping to balance security, manufacturability and user requirements. Continuous iteration allowed the concept to evolve into a practical solution suitable for real-world application.



Final Product & Outcome
The final Trade Lock concept was developed as a dedicated anti-theft system designed to protect power tools commonly targeted within the construction industry. The solution combined robust security features with a practical form factor, providing users with a reliable method of safeguarding equipment during storage and transportation. The project demonstrated my ability to combine research, product design, CAD development and design-for-manufacture principles to deliver a commercially relevant product solution.
